Former Inter star Gianluca Pagliuca blames Mauricio Pochettino for the confusing rotation of Gigio Donnarumma and Keylor Navas and says Inter must avoid the same situation with Andre Onana.

The Ajax goalkeeper underwent his medical with the Nerazzurri earlier this week.

He will complete a free transfer to Inter at the end of the season, but Samir Handanovic would still sign a contract extension with the Serie A champions, playing his last season with the Nerazzurri in 2022-23.

The Slovenian goalkeeper sees his current deal expire on June 30.

“Handanovic is still a great goalkeeper, he’s been unbeaten for over 500 minutes this season. He made some mistakes at the beginning of the campaign, but he is still a great goalkeeper,” Pagliuca said Sky Sport Italia.

The former Italy and Inter shot-stopper believes Onana will be an excellent signing for the Nerazzurri but warned Simone Inzaghi about his management.

“He should avoid the same chaos as PSG. I don’t think Onana will be the regular starter from the very beginning. I think he will slowly become a starter playing some games in Coppa Italia and Serie A.

“PSG have two top goalkeepers like Donnarumma and Navas, but they never know who plays. Pochettino didn’t handle this situation well.

“There isn’t logic in his decisions. When Donnarumma plays a good game, he goes on the bench in the following one. It all seems quite random. Had he picked one goalkeeper for cup games and one for the league, it would have been more logical.”

Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer from Milan last summer.

The 22-year-old has played 11 games across all competitions so far, making his Champions League debut against Manchester City in September.

Keylor Navas has played 16 games: 11 in the Ligue 1 and three in the Champions League.

3 thought on “Pagliuca warns Inter about Onana and blames Pochettino”
  1. Onana is a great goalkeeper already better then hadanovic but inzaghi must be clear and honest to him or onana is nr.1 or rotation

  2. @ inter fans never cease to amaze me.

carrying on like they all watch the Eredivisie and they know what they are getting.

  3. Handanovic is still great, but everything will depends if he signs a contract extension (with around half his current wage) or leave for another club like Lazio.

I personally hope he stays for AT LEAST 1 more season, until Onana gets it in Italian.
