Former goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca weighed in on the two goalkeepers gearing up for the Champions League semi-final between Inter and Milan, Andre Onana and Mike Maignan.

The Rossoneri have a mountain to climb in the upcoming second leg, having lost 2-0 in their first meeting last week. The Nerazzurri performed well and the absence of Rafael Leao also affected proceedings.

The winner of Inter-Milan will face the winner of Manchester City-Real Madrid in the final in Istanbul next month, making either Italian side the underdogs for the biggest game of European club football.

Speaking to Rai Radio 1, Pagliuca first gave his thoughts on the favourites for the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals between Inter and Milan.

“Inter are favourites after 2-0 in the first leg, but I don’t trust this beaten Milan. I am convinced that Inter have a good chance, I hope they go to the final. But we have to be careful with this wounded Milan, who will certainly fight for their lives dearly tomorrow.”

The former Italy goalkeeper was then asked who was stronger between Maignan and Onana, the two number ones.

“They are both very strong. I still go on Maignan’s side, he has more experience. But I have to say that Onana is having a very important season in his first year in Serie A.

“I didn’t think he would come out so soon, I thought Handanovic would hold out more, but then after a couple of so-so games Inzaghi decided to bet on Onana and he did very well.

“But Maignan is currently one of the three best goalkeepers in the world.”

Milan disappointed in their Serie A match on the weekend, losing 2-0 to Spezia, whilst Inter carried their momentum forward with a 4-2 win over Sassuolo.
