Former Italy international Gianluca Pagliuca said he was ‘surprised’ by Gianluigi Buffon’s move to Parma, but stressed the 43-year-old showed ‘courage’ to move to Serie B. ‘He’s still decisive’.

The former Juventus star re-joined Parma, where it all started, this summer and former Inter star Pagliuca is impressed by the veteran.

The 54-year-old is currently working as goalkeeper coach at Bologna, where he started his career as a player.

He praised Buffon’s decision to re-join Parma and highlighted the World Cup winner’s desire to win promotion with the Crociati.

“Gigi surprised me, both for the choice to return to Parma, and because I didn’t imagine he could be so decisive at 43,” Pagliuca told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He had the courage to go down to Serie B, for someone like him, there can’t be an alternative to promotion.”

Parma are currently 13th in Serie B, but returned to winning ways against Cittadella three days ago and are currently preparing for a home game against Vicenza on Monday.
