There have already been 24,000 tickets sold in three days for the crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier between Italy and Switzerland.

It is hosted by the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Friday November 12.

The two nations are currently joint top of the group, which could even be decided by goal difference, so this becomes a turning point in the campaign.

Only the top team will go directly into the World Cup in Qatar, as the runners-up enter the play-offs.

Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, losing the play-offs to Sweden, which prompted the change of coach to Roberto Mancini.

He went on a new all-time world record unbeaten run, winning UEFA EURO 2020 and coming third in the Nations League.

There had been some concerns at staging this match at the Stadio Olimpico due to the state of the turf, but it was given the all-clear following an inspection.

In just three days, 24,000 tickets have been sold for the big match in Rome.

Italian stadiums can now open at 75 per cent capacity, an increase from the 50 per cent allowed during the Nations League.

Tickets prices range from €90 for the Tribuna D’Onore section to just €5 for children under 12.

Only those who have a Green Pass can enter the stadium, so proving COVID vaccination status, recent recovery or a negative test within 48 hours of the event.

  1. Could you please now stop mentioning about we did not qualify. For goodness sake, we are all aware of what happened in 2018. England did not qualify quite a few times but you never mention those so stop it please. Lets hope we do well and qualify just to stop hearing it from here in England and reading it. Enough is enough.
