Leo Ostigard is happy to have finally scored his debut Serie A season and feels the rapport with Napoli defensive partner Natan is growing. ‘We are getting better every game.’

The Partenopei had been bitterly criticised and were seemingly in chaos just a week ago, but have now scored eight goals in back-to-back wins over Udinese and Lecce.

Even squad rotation made little impact on their form ahead of the Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, bringing on Victor Osimhen only for the second half at the Stadio Via del Mare.

It was defender Ostigard who had opened the scoring with a header from Piotr Zielinski’s free kick, his first Serie A goal.

“It’s a good feeling, of course. I love to score goals, it was a fine cross from Zelu, so I am happy to finally score for Napoli,” Ostigard told DAZN.

This was the second consecutive match for Ostigard as a partner with Natan in defence, which was rather rushed ahead of schedule because Juan Jesus and Amir Rrahmani are injured.

“It’s been working very well, me and him have a good relationship. It’s not easy when playing with a new guy, we are both quite young, but he played a top game again today. It’s always a pleasure to play alongside him.”

Ostigard was in the squad that won the Scudetto under Luciano Spalletti, so how have things changed with the arrival of Rudi Garcia on the bench?

“When you win the league, it will always be difficult, because everyone wants to beat you. We have to do things even better. We’ve had an OK start, we won here and are getting better every game. Hopefully, we will have a great season.”
