Sampdoria director Carlo Osti said the clash with Milan today can “tell us what we’re made of and we’ll use our own strengths.”

It kicks off at 11.30 UK time (10.30 GMT), follow the build-up and action from all seven Serie A games on the LIVEBLOG.

“This side has to take it one game at a time and maintain a low profile. We know that we have a good team and a fine Coach in Marco Giampaolo,” the director of sport told Mediaset Premium.

“The Serie A situation is far more balanced now and every incident can prove decisive for the result. We are facing a strong Milan side that dominated the summer transfer market, but we’ll try to use our own strengths.

“This is a match that can tell us what we’re made of. We know that we’re a provincial club, but have to give it our best and want to maintain our unbeaten record.

“Samp are more intensive this season. We raised the level of internal competition for places, so consequently the training sessions are more intense.”

President Massimo Ferrero said Sampdoria were targeting seventh place this season.

“Our President is a dreamer, so we aim high, but we know that it has to be built one training session at a time. It’s not an easy objective to reach, but we have built a good squad.”

This is a homecoming for Vincenzo Montella, who was at Sampdoria both as a player and Coach.

“He is a fine tactician. It was a difficult period for Samp when he was here two years ago, but in the end we achieved safety and rebuilt.

“I wish Montella the best of luck.”
