Sampdoria’s sporting director Carlo Osti says he’s still optimistic the club will secure a deal for Everton’s Samuel Eto’o.

The striker is believed to have agreed terms with the Blucerchiati, but the deal is being held up as he tries to free himself from the English club, with the club President stating that the deal was causing confusion.

“With Eto’o we’ve made our moves,” Osti explained to Rai Sport.

“We have an agreement with him and his agent, I’m optimistic but cautious. We’re waiting for him to be released from Liverpool.

“Caution is a must for as long as you don’t have the contracts sign. The player wants to play for Sampdoria.”

Osti also ruled out a Marassi departure for Stefano Okaka, despite a bust-up with the sporting director and Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“I’ve been very clear on Okaka, he’s not on the market. We have an agreement with him and his agent Andrea Cattoli to discuss things in June.

“He’s of great value to Samp, and he can give us a lot in the second half of the season, just as he did in the first.

“We’re third at the moment, ahead of clubs who are better equipped than us, that have strengthened in the transfer market. However, we’ll try to hold onto that position.”
