David Ospina was proud to keep his 100th clean sheet in Europe and provided an update on a possible contract renewal with Napoli.

The 33-year-old Colombian shot stopper kept his 11th clean sheet of this Serie A season against Venezia today, helping Napoli to rise one point behind league leaders Inter in the Serie A table. The Partenopei will face the Nerazzurri in a head-to-head clash next weekend.

Speaking to DAZN after the win over Venezia, Ospina first commented on his 100th clean sheet in European football.

“It’s a good thing that I’m proud of. I work day by day, match by match to give my best.”

He then commented on his relationship with coach Luciano Spalletti, who has chosen the Colombian to be his number one over Alex Meret.

“The coach trusts both me and Alex. Meret is young but he has a lot of quality. When I came back from the national team they asked me how I was feeling after the food poisoning. I felt fine and was available for today’s game.”

Finally, Ospina discussed his possible contract renewal with the club. His current deal expires at the end of this season.

“For now I’m thinking about playing, taking advantage of the opportunities I have and will have. We’ll see what happens with the contract.

“Right now the only thing that matters is that Napoli win. We’ll talk about that later.”

The 33-year-old Ospina, who has been with Napoli since 2019, has made 20 Serie A appearances so far this season, for a total of 1800 minutes. In that time, he has conceded 14 goals and kept 11 clean sheets.
