Roma defender Evan Ndicka and Fiorentina’s Christian Kouame won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast in a dramatic comeback win over Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman’s Nigeria.

The hosts had been trailing to a header on a corner from former Udinese defender William Troost-Ekong.

However, ex-Milan midfielder Franck Kessie equalised before Sebastian Haller sealed the 2-1 victory on home turf.

It was ultimately a disappointing tournament for Napoli striker Osimhen, who scored only one goal in the opening 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.

He did provide three assists in the other six matches, but more was expected from last season’s Serie A Capocannoniere.

Atalanta winger Lookman was more effective with three goals and an assist, though the goals all came in the Round of 16 win over Cameroon and quarter-final victory over Angola.

The other Serie A player representing Nigeria this evening was Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze.

As for the Ivory Coast, Fiorentina forward Kouame was on the bench for the Final, but did appear in four games during the tournament.

Other familiar faces in the Ivorian side include ex-Torino man Wilfried Singo and former Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga.
