Victor Osimhen insists he’d like to play in the Premier League one day but adds that life in Serie A is ‘wonderful’ and believes his teammate Kvicha Kvaratskhelia could win the Ballon d’Or.
Whispers that a move to England could be on the cards have turned into shouts in recent months, with Eric Ten Hag and Manchester United said to be particularly interested in landing the Nigerian’s signature.
Osimhen was speaking to the media alongside club president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Monday after being presented with the Best Foreign Player in Italy award by the Foreign Press Association.
When asked about the Premier League rumours, he responded: “Playing in Serie A is wonderful for me. I know that people consider the Premier League to be the best league in the world, but for now I’m not thinking about it, I don’t know what will happen.
“I’m working hard and I’m happy to play in Naples,” he continued. “I’m doing my best to achieve my goals and maybe to play in the Premier League one day but for now, I’m enjoying the moment.
“For me, Serie A remains a great challenge, with different characteristics from other leagues and with fans who always make you feel their support. In that regard, for me, it’s the best league.”
Osimhen has not been the only firing weapon in Napoli’s arsenal this season. Supported by the likes of Stanislav Lobotka, Piotr Zielinski and Hirving Lozano, Napoli boast one of the most effective attacking units in Europe.
The signing of Kvicha Kvaratskhelia for €11.5M from Dinamo Batumi has been widely documented as one of the biggest bargains of the summer transfer window.
Osimhen was full of praise for his teammate, claiming that the Georgian could go on to win the biggest individual prize in world football.
“He’s a great guy, I understood that immediately. Everyone loves him in the dressing room, not only for what he does on the pitch but also for what he does off it,” he said.
“I believe he can win the Ballon d’Or in the next few years, I hope he also brings many successes to Napoli”.
