According to Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno, Manchester United wouldn’t offer more than €80m for Victor Osimhen, while Napoli should have covered 50% of Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary.
Ronaldo was heavily linked with a return to Serie A in the last days of the summer transfer window, with Napoli seen as a possible destination for the Portuguese striker.
Jorge Mendes was looking for a Champions League club for his star client, but Napoli were only open to welcoming CR7 if Man United would pay most of his salary.
On the other hand, according to Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno, the Red Devils wanted to split the payment of Ronaldo’s wages throughout the season (50% each), offering no more than €80m for Victor Osimhen who should have moved to Old Trafford.
According to the report, Napoli were never in direct talks with the Premier League side but only held negotiations with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, who eventually failed to find a new club for the ex-Juventus star.
“We have a very good rapport with his agent Jorge Mendes, but there was never anything concrete between Napoli and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli confirmed earlier this week.
If they paid 100 mil for Antony, they should have paid 200 mil for Oshimen. But those EPL teams only seem to overpay for players from some leagues. Maybe they are scared to reinforce Italian teams too much.
