Victor Osimhen admits the 3-2 victory over Udinese was ‘really intense’ and reminded the leaders that ‘no game is easy,’ as he shrugs off Capocannoniere ambitions in favour of the Scudetto.
The centre-forward opened the scoring at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, nodding in an Eljif Elmas cross, before Piotr Zielinski and Elmas rounded out the 3-0 lead, but Ilija Nestorovski and Lazar Samardzic put Udinese back to 3-2.
“I think this game was really intense, especially the second half. We played as a team to get the three points, the most important thing is to keep going and remember no game is easy, so we did great,” Osimhen told DAZN.
This goal was the Nigerian’s second consecutive headed goal after the winner against Atalanta.
“I’m happy about the goal, Eljif gave me a great assist. I am happy to contribute and we want to keep the momentum going.”
With nine Serie A goals in just 11 games, is Osimhen targeting the Capocannoniere title in Serie A this season?
“That is not for me, I don’t put myself before the team or my individual ambition. It is a team sport and I want to win trophies with this team. If I win Capocannoniere, I’ll be happy, but the important thing is the team wins.”
Napoli are almost disappointed with the long break for the 2022 World Cup, as it interrupts an extraordinary period of form for the team, who won’t be back playing together competitively until January 4.
“It’s not a problem, we have some days off, we return as a group. I wish my teammates a good tournament, we will come back very soon and work together as a team.”
Napoli are temporarily 11 points clear at the top of the table after 11 consecutive Serie A victories, awaiting Milan and Lazio results.
