The fallout continues from the insulting video that Napoli released on TikTok about Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian journalist close to the striker has apologised to fans for suggesting he ‘will leave for free.’

The video with comical high voices depicts Osimhen appealing for a penalty and then blasting it wide of the target in their 0-0 Serie A draw with Bologna.

He was deeply offended and his agent Roberto Calenda announced last night they would be taking legal action against the club over the “unacceptable” video.

Journalist Oma Akatugba, who has been close to Osimhen for years, released a video in which he warned that the forward would leave for free because the contract expires in 2025 and has not been renewed.

This infuriated the Napoli supporters and Akatugba felt the need to issue a clarification, also on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“First of all, I would like to extend my unreserved apology to every Napoli fan regarding my recent video, which has since been deleted because I found out it has been misinterpreted.

“I want to emphasize that I’ve been a devoted fan of Napoli since Victor Osimhen joined the club and I have covered the club’s games and made new incredible friends.

“Furthermore, I’d like to clarify that my previous comments were in no way representative of Osimhen, nor do they reflect his thoughts or sentiments.

“I’ll also like to add that I didn’t set out to disrespect the club as I share a good relationship with its staff and fans. My words also do not represent the relationship Osimhen shares with Napoli FC, a club with which he has achieved remarkable success.

“However, like any other Nigerian and Napoli lover who saw his efforts last season in ensuring the club wins its first Serie A title in 33 years, I was shocked to see the video. I removed my video because I did not want anyone to misinterpret my comments or take them out of context.

“It’s essential to underscore that I am not Victor Osimhen’s spokesperson. As a football journalist, I want to stress that everything I say or post about Victor and Napoli is solely my personal opinion and I share them as a fan of the club and one who has enjoyed its people and the culture. Forza Napoli!!!”

The situation is still far from resolved, as Osimhen then removed all images of himself in the Napoli jersey from his social media accounts.

He was also caught on camera today arriving for training ahead of this evening’s game against Udinese, completely ignoring his teammates and leaving Diego Demme hanging without a handshake.
