Victor Osimhen thanks Luciano Spalletti for giving him ‘as much confidence as I can get’ at Napoli after his hat-trick thrashed Sassuolo 4-0.

The Nigeria international had the match ball tucked under his arm, as is traditional for a hat-trick hero, and has caught Marko Arnautovic of Bologna as Capocannoniere on seven Serie A goals this season.

He got two of them on assists from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, who also found the net himself in the 4-0 win over Sassuolo.

“Congratulations to the team, I am happy to contribute to this win. Of course it is good to have as many goals as this, I want to keep the momentum going,” Osimhen told DAZN.

It has been a more prolific campaign than ever for the striker, so what has changed at Napoli this season?

“This season the coach has given me as much confidence as I can get. I am really happy to rely on him giving me the maximum confidence. I have just returned from five weeks out, which is not easy, and it is important to get really integrated with the team.”

Osimhen was asked to explain the goal celebration, where he seems to draw some letters in the air.

“That signal was for my daughter. Every moment I score or do something good, I do it for her. She is my life now and I am happy to dedicate everything to her.”

  1. Chiesa could be as good as Osimhen, but he is the ultimate diver. He is always falling down looking for a gift where as Osimhen powers through for goals.
