Victor Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda describes the contract negotiations with Napoli as ‘a marathon’ and a result that ‘satisfies everyone,’ but he too refuses to confirm the release clause.

It was announced via President Aurelio De Laurentiis’ social media accounts today that Osimhen had put pen to paper on the new deal until June 2026.

“This was a marathon, a long process, but we reached the finish line,” agent Calenda told Sky Sport Italia.

“The renewal satisfies everyone, because we all wanted to continue this story that reached a peak last season with the Scudetto victory.

“Victor and his teammates inspired the team and gave the fans great joy. Both parties wanted to continue this adventure together.”

However, the fact remains this is only a one-year extension to the previous contract and there are reports it includes a release clause.

That has been rumoured to be set at anything from €120m to €140m, so what is the truth of the matter?

“I would not go too far into the details,” replied the agent. “Let us leave room for what happened, and that is the renewal which both the player and club wanted.

“Let us leave the details to the paperwork.”

Director of sport Mauro Meluso was asked about the release clause too by DAZN this evening ahead of the match against Roma, and he gave the same response about not wanting to get into details.

If there is a release clause, it has to be assumed that clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain could attempt a summer swoop.

“We want to enjoy this renewal, which was wanted by both parties,” replied Calenda again.

“The player showed how much he cares about this club, while Napoli did everything possible to ensure this went through. We hope for other great results.”
