Opportunities arise for Inter youngsters amidst defensive injuries

Inter will likely be without defenders Benjamin Poavard and Alessandro Bastoni as well as wing-back Juan Cuadrado for their upcoming matches, so there could soon be opportunities for two Nerazzurri youngsters in Giacomo Stabile and Aleksandar Stankovic.

Stabile and Stankovic were promoted to the senior squad at the beginning of Inter’s summer training camp.

Stabile, 18, has been called up to the matchday squad on two occasions, including the first game of the 2023-24 season, while Stankovic, also 18, has travelled with the first team five times over the last two seasons.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi is likely to field an initial back four involving Matteo Darmian, Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi and Federico Dimarco in Inter’s games after the international break. Yann Bisseck is also ready to seize an opportunity.

However, with an important set of fixtures against Juventus, Benfica and Napoli within the space of a week after the return of domestic football, La Gazzetta writes that Inzaghi will need to provide his first-team players with rest where possible.

With the Nerazzurri already qualified from their Champions League group, La Gazzetta indicates that Inzaghi could shuffle his pack in Europe to allow his available first-teamers to be in the best possible condition for Serie A action.
