Josip Ilicic said he wanted to leave Atalanta, but the only remaining option for him is Milan, according to reports.

Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed in a press conference that Ilicic had requested a transfer at the end of last season, seeking a new experience elsewhere after some clashes with the coach.

He was told that he could leave for the right price, but so far the only interest has come from Milan, notes the Corriere di Bergamo newspaper.

The Rossoneri are trying to keep the costs down and won’t offer more than €5m, whereas Atalanta want closer to €8m for the 33-year-old Slovenia international.

Ilicic is only under contract until June 2022, although there is an option to extend for another year in the deal.

Last season, he found the net seven times and provided 11 assists for his teammates in 38 competitive games for Atalanta.

Milan should bring in some cash this week, as Jens Petter Hauge is on the verge of a loan with obligation to buy to Eintracht Frankfurt worth €12m.
