Yann Sommer made key interventions in Inter‘s win against Napoli on Sunday and was named MOTM by Nerazzurri fans, prompting La Gazzetta dello Sport to claim André Onana is not missed at the Stadio Meazza.

Inter are the less-beaten defence in Serie A this season with just seven goals conceded in 14 matches. Sommer has kept nine clean sheets in league games this term and contributed to a 3-0 win over Napoli on Sunday with some crucial saves.

La Gazzetta dello Sport analysed Sommer’s performance at the Stadio Maradona highlighting that the Swiss international made at least two vital saves to deny Partenopei midfielder Eljif Elmas.

Sommer’s outstanding performance came a few days after Manchester United’s 3-3 draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League where former Inter keeper Onana was far from impressive.

The Cameroon international moved to Old Trafford last summer for circa €50m and Inter replaced him by signing Sommer from Bayern Munich for barely €7m.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Francesco Sessa noted Inter ‘aren’t weaker’ following Onana’s sale and Sommer’s purchase. On the contrary, the Nerazzurri look even stronger defensively this term.

Sommer was rated 7.5/10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport and Inter fans picked him as the Man Of the Match at the Stadio Maradona with over 50% of votes, beating goalscorers Nicolò Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram.
