Andre Onana is expected to undergo his medical with Inter today before signing the five-year contract, as he’ll be a free agent from Ajax.

The goalkeeper’s current contract in the Netherlands is due to expire in June and he has for many months confirmed he won’t pen an extension.

According to L’Equipe, later confirmed by Sportitalia, Sky Sport Italia and more, Onana will be in Italy today for his medical tests.

This comes after Inter informed Ajax via email that they have agreed personal terms with the shot-stopper, a necessary step in the process of signing someone who will soon be a free agent.

Onana agreed a deal with Inter last year, despite some reports that Barcelona or Arsenal were back in the running.

The 25-year-old will sign a five-year contract, then fly out to take place in the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon.

He’ll join Inter from July 1, replacing Samir Handanovic, and is set to earn €3m per season.

  1. Yes, Yes. Another non-Italian in the league. Excellent news. Another Italian player buried in ‘B’.

    League UN.

  2. The problem is there is not a plethora of good Italian goalkeepers and defenders around. I would have preferred an Italian but Onana is young, has CL experience and we need to replace Handanovic who has lost a step due to age.

  3. I do not see how Meret, Audero, Vicario, Montipo or Cragno are better options?
Or at least then have both one of them and Onana, so one can flop… But if Meret is not good enough for Napoli, then how is any of the 4 others listed going to offer more?
    So, what Italian keepers?

  4. If he was so good, wouldn’t Ajax re-sign him? (honest question).

    Jon, your point?

Ferban. Hi. Cagliari are going down. Cragno has been one of their few bright spots. A measily 2 years in age difference. Not on an expiring contract but with Casteddu going down they would probably sell him on a pittance. The good Italian hasn’t been suspended for a year for Doping like Onana has either 🙂

Incidentally, they picked up Lovato from Atalanta. I’m pretty sure it was you that thought highly of him.

  5. Maybe I’ll watch a Cameroon match at AFCON.

Hopefully Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands and Ethiopia take it easy on him.

Don’t see how Cameroon don’t win that Group.

  6. Also Ferban,

To answer your question, I don’t know which Italian Keeper better and available. You know why?

Of what I wrote in my OP — because he is buried in B.

Let the Cameroon domestic league develop their players. Likewise Italy will do the same. Fair.

  7. You should read thr news about onana thoroughly. Ajax offered him a renewal contract for multiple times since last year, but he always refused it.
