On the night, Gianni Comandini gave the Diavolo the lead after only three minutes and added his second 15 minutes later with a header. Both goals were assisted by Serginho, who contributed three assists and one goal on the night.

Federico Giunti’s free kick evaded everyone on its way to make it 3-0 eight minutes into the second half, before Andriy Shevchenko followed up with an 11-minute brace.

Serginho put the infamous nail in the coffin on 81 minutes, ensuring Sebastien Frey had a night he would never forget between the Beneamata’s sticks.

He told FCInterNews.it in 2017: “Knowing the magnitude of the match on a global level and how important it is to the city of Milan, it seemed Milan was possessed in that match while we just seemed paralysed!”
