Leo almost worked miracles to keep them in the Scudetto race and Champions League, but a late collapse saw them lose their Serie A crown to Milan and not even Dejan Stankovic’s wonder goal could spare a European exit to Schalke.
That left only the Coppa to concentrate on, and they played for the cup against a Palermo side with a fresh-faced Josip Ilicic and Javier Pastore at the peak of his powers.
There was little in the way of a contest at the Olimpico, with Samuel Eto’o’s coolly-taken pair of finishes either side of half-time killing off the Rosanero.
Ezequiel Munoz did pull a goal back for Palermo late on, but Diego Milito tapped in right at the death to ensure Inter retained the Coppa.
The Benemata have gone nine years without adding to their trophy cabinet, although they have shown signs of a revival since returning to the Champions League in 2018.
