Former hero Luis Oliveira argues Fiorentina ‘made a mistake’ letting Giovanni Simeone move to Cagliari and claims we ‘haven’t seen the real’ Federico Chiesa this season.

The Belgian attacker moved from Cagliari to Fiorentina in July 1996, before heading back to Sardinia three years later.

Lulu still follows his two former clubs and hopes to see a great contest at the Artemio Franchi tonight.

“Fiorentina play better away than at home, while Cagliari, haven’t returned to the heights of the first part of the season,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “I would like to see a great show.”

The 51-year-old scored 71 goals combined for the two sides and addressed the attackers of today’s teams.

“Ribery has shown that age doesn’t matter. Even if you’re 40, you can be decisive if you want,” he added, before talking about the recent burglary at his home in Florence: “These are things that can happen. The thief, however, doesn’t steal from those who have nothing.

“Maybe he was being followed for weeks. It bothers the family, it takes away their serenity and concentration.”

Moving back to football, the Brazilian-born centre-forward claims Italy international Chiesa has struggled to live up to the expectations in Tuscany this season.

“Last year he was linked with many big clubs. This year, he has been missing something, we haven’t seen the real Chiesa.

“It can happen. For me, he could still be the future of Fiorentina and I hope he will have a nice end to the championship, to shut people up.”

The Serbia Under-21 international Dusan Vlahovic struggled to convince Vincenzo Montella at the start of the season and Oliveira claims he should have been given more opportunities early on.

“He didn’t play much under Montella. I saw him in the first leg against Cagliari and he impressed me.

“If I were the coach and have a decisive boy, even at 15, I would still let him play. Right now, age is not an element to be taken into consideration.”

In the meantime, Argentine forward Simeone moved to Cagliari on loan with obligations to buy last summer and has scored 10 goals in 29 games for the Rossoblu.

“I said it a long time ago,” Oliveira added. “Fiorentina made a mistake letting him go. He’s a player who is always present in the area.

“Maybe he’s confusing, but he’s always there lurking. He wants and can make the difference.”
