In a remarkable twist, Foggia have appointed Zdenek Zeman for his fourth different spell at the club.

The news was announced by the Serie C side this afternoon, in an image depicting Zeman with new Foggia President Nicola Canonico.

The term ‘Zemanlandia’ – sounding like an Italian theme park for the rollercoaster ride of football that it provided – was coined for Zeman’s extraordinary Foggia side from 1989-1994.

That was the second spell, as he had already been there in 1986-87.

Zeman returned again in 2010-11 and now he is back once more a decade later for the 2021-22 season.

They were known for their all-attack approach, which often considered defending to be an after-thought, resulting in 5-4 scorelines.

The coach, who also had experiences at Lazio, Roma, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade among others, turned 74 last month.

He has not worked since he was sacked by Pescara in March 2018.

Despite his notorious chain-smoking habit, Zeman remains in good health and has no intention of retiring.
