Cagliari have confirmed that Zdenek Zeman has resigned from his position of Coach at the Sardinian club.

It was reported this morning that the Czech tactician had handed in his resignation, after failing to invigorate the players since returning to the bench last month, and confirmation has now arrived.

“Cagliari Calcio announces that Zdenek Zeman has today resigned from his post as head Coach of the first team,” the Isolani announced in a statement on their official website.

“To Coach Zeman and his staff we offer thanks for the work they’ve done, and best wishes for the rest of his career.”

The 67-year-old was initially sacked by the club at the end of December, with Gianfranco Zola replacing him at Sant’Elia.

However, on March 9 the former Roma Coach returned to the club, with Zola having failed to improve the side’s fortunes.

In the five games since his return, the Isolani have failed to achieve a victory, with four defeats and a solitary draw with Empoli all Zeman has to show for his efforts.

Primavera Coach Vittorio Pusceddu is the initial favourite to replace the outgoing Coach, with former player David Suazo possibly taking a role as his assistant.
