Roma have finally completed the transfer for Palmeiras left-back Matias Viña for €13m plus bonuses. ‘I am pleased to be wanted by such a prestigious club.’

The 23-year-old had agreed personal terms last month, but the completion of the deal was delayed by disagreements over the payment schedule.

A statement from Roma this afternoon confirms they are paying €13m plus bonuses, and will owe Palmeiras a cut of any future transfer fee.

He signed a contract to June 2026.

“I am pleased to be wanted by a prestigious club like Roma,” Vina said.

“I have dreamed of playing in Europe since I was a child, and to be able to achieve that goal while playing in a Roma shirt is something that makes me very proud.

“I can’t wait to join up with the coach and my new teammates, and then to run out onto the pitch in front of our fans.”

Viña has 16 caps for Uruguay and won the Copa Libertadores with Palmeiras in 2020.

He has been brought in to replace Leonardo Spinazzola during the recovery from a torn Achilles tendon.

“He is a player with a winning mentality and great potential to improve even further,” added Roma director Tiago Pinto on the official club website.

Viña will wear the Number 5 jersey.
