Official: Villarreal suffer Moreno injury blow ahead of Juventus clash

Villarreal defender Alberto Moreno will miss the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Juventus next week after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee.

The former Liverpool defender is a regular Villarreal starter, having played 35 games across all competitions this season. He played 79 minutes in the first leg against Juventus two weeks ago but won’t be available in the second leg in Turin next week due to a severe knee injury.

Villarreal have just announced that the 28-year-old’s season is over after suffering an ACL tear.

“Medical tests carried out on Alberto Moreno have confirmed that he has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee,” Villarreal’s statement read.

“The Andalusian footballer picked up the injury in the last LaLiga match against Osasuna at El Sadar on Saturday. The player will be operated on in the coming days by Doctor Ramón Cugat.”
