Hellas Verona have officially appointed Marco Baroni as their new coach after his experience at Lecce.

The decision had been in the air for a while and was finally announced this afternoon.

Baroni has signed a contract to June 2024, with an option to extend for a second season.

The 59-year-old had been at Lecce since the summer of 2021, taking them to top spot in the Serie B table and automatic promotion, then ensuring their top flight status.

Before that, his other clubs included Reggina, Cremonese, Frosinone, Benevento, Novara, Pescara, Virtus Lanciano, Siena, Ancona and the Juventus Under-19 team.

It is a return to Verona, as he started out as assistant manager to Alberto Malesani in the 2002-03 campaign.

As a player, Baroni had also represented Hellas Verona from 1996 to 1998, retiring in 2000.

In other news, Verona have also officially sold midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana to newly-promoted Cagliari.

The 20-year-old Ghanaian came up through the Verona youth team after a spell in the Atalanta academy and made the permanent transfer for €4m.
