The former Italy manager had been the favourite to capture the place in the Serie B play-offs, taking the lead against Spezia last night, only to lose 2-1 at home.

Lotito was caught on video talking to a collaborator about Ventura and bitterly criticising his ‘crazy’ substitutions.

This afternoon, Salernitana released a statement confirming Ventura had tended his resignation.

The 72-year-old ends the Serie B season with 14 wins, 10 draws and 14 defeats.
