Olympique Marseille confirm Ruslan Malinovskyi has joined the club on loan with an option to buy from Atalanta.

The Ligue 1 side have confirmed the deal with a video shared on their social media which shows the ex-Atalanta midfielder saying ‘Allez OM.’

The 29-year-old had been linked with a move to Tottenham, but Marseille were quick in finalising the deal with La Dea who had been looking for a suitor since last summer.

Malinovskyi managed one goal and two assists in 15 Serie A appearances this term.

Atalanta specify in an official statement that Marseille’s option to buy becomes an obligation if ‘certain conditions are met.’

“Atalanta B.C. would like to sincerely thank Ruslan for his commitment, his sense of belonging to the club and the significant contribution he has made in three and a half seasons donning the black-and-blue shirt, wishing him all the best in this new professional experience,” the club said.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 1 side can make Malinovskyi’s move permanent in the summer for €10m plus €3m add-ons.

The Ukraine international had joined La Dea from Genk for €13m in 2019 and scored 30 goals in 143 appearances under Gian Piero Gasperini.

This past August, Gasp confirmed Atalanta were willing to replace Malinovskyi saying the club were looking for a player who could score ‘more than six goals per season.’
