Tottenham have officially announced the arrival of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has signed a five-year contract with the club.
The 26-year-old was one of the standout goalkeepers in Serie A this season, keeping seven clean sheets and managing 95 saves across the campaign. He also impressed with his abilities on the ball, comfortable playing out from the back.
Tottenham purchased Vicario from Empoli in a deal reported to be worth around €19m plus add-ons, with 10% of this fee going to his previous club Cagliari. The Italian goalkeeper signed a five-year contract with the club and will wear the number 13 shirt.
Vicario is expected to grow into the long-term replace for Hugo Lloris, who is entering the final year of his contract and could depart in the coming months.
The Italian has been called up to Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri squad on a number of occasions but hasn’t yet made his first appearance, being benched in favour of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
