Carlos Tevez has officially left Juventus to sign for his former club Boca Juniors, with Guido Vadalá going the other way.
The decision had been in the air for some time, as the striker was eager for a return ‘home’ to his beloved former club.
“This is a day of joy and enormous satisfaction,” said President Daniel Angelici in a statement on the club website.
“The return of Carlos Tevez, during an extraordinary moment of his career, is fantastic news for all the members and fans of Boca, plus for all of Argentine football.
“Carlos’ presence will allow the squad to take another huge leap forward in terms of quality.”
The statement also noted “Angelici agreed all terms with the directors of Juventus and lawyers from both clubs will finalise the details of the transfer.”
It had originally been reported that Boca would pay €5m plus the loan of young creative midfielder Vadalá.
However, Angelici assured the club “would not be paying a single peso” for the transfer.
Instead, Juventus will get Vadalá – who is due in Turin for his medical this weekend – and options on several other promising young talents on the Boca roster.
Remarkably, Boca announced the transfer during half-time in Argentina's Copa America clash with Colombia.
Tevez was on the bench, but came on as a substitute and scored the decisive penalty in a shoot-out to send his nation through.
