It is now official there will be a new September process from the city of Rome’s authorities to decide whether the Stadio Della Roma project goes ahead.

The troubled plans for the purpose-built arena in the Tor di Valle area continue to hit problems.

As the original project was changed so much since the current Conferenza dei Servizi (local authority planning process) began, a whole new one will start in September.

This does mean that President Jim Pallotta’s pledge to break ground in 2017 seems to be off the table.

A statement from the Regione Lazio this evening confirmed “the opinions given have in part overcome the dissent, but certain critical issues remain on important aspects that need further investigation.

“The modifications have certainly put less of a strain on the urban impact to the Tor di Valle area, but also reduce the resources for public buildings.

“For these reasons, many administrations demand the need to review and improve the project on issues such as public transport. In September, the new conference will make a definitive statement on the entire project, integrated with modifications already received and based on the observations of the various administrations.”
