Sporting KC confirmed they have agreed a transfer for USMNT talent Gianluca Busio to newly-promoted Serie A side Venezia, pending a medical. ‘I’m really excited to join Venezia.’

As the name would suggest, the 19-year-old has an Italian father and therefore can register with an Italian passport, not taking up any of the non-EU slots in the squad.

The midfielder becomes the second MLS player to join Venezia this summer, after FC Dallas midfielder Tanner Tessmann.

“This is a very proud moment for me and my family,” Busio told the official Sporting Kansas City website.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has made it possible, especially all the people at Sporting KC who have helped me become the player and person I am today.

“Sporting will always have a special place in my heart and I’m grateful to have started my career at such an amazing club. The people, the fans, the city—everything about Kansas City was perfect and it will always feel like home.

“This is the next step in my career and I’m really excited to join Venezia.”

Busio was given his MLS debut at the age of 16 in July 2018, becoming the second youngest ever player to both assist and score in MLS.

He then became the youngest ever to score in the MLS Cup Playoffs and this summer received his United States Men’s National Team debut.

His versatility is one of the reasons why Busio was chosen by Venezia, as he can play in various midfield roles, as a winger or even a centre-forward.
