Spezia have sacked their coach Luca Gotti and according to reports in Italy, Leonardo Semplici is the leading candidate to replace him.
The Aquilotti lost three of the last five Serie A games seeing Hellas Verona move just two points below them in the table.
Last week, they wasted a two-goal lead away at Empoli, allowing the Tuscans to score twice in the last 20 minutes.
“Spezia Calcio announces that it has relieved Luca Gotti of his position as head coach of the first team,” the Aquilotti said in a statement.
“The club would like to thank the coach for his work and wishes him the best professional success.”
Gotti had signed a two-year deal at the Stadio Picco last summer and collected four wins, seven draws and 11 defeats in 22 games this season.
According to Sky Sport Italia, former SPAL and Cagliari coach Leonardo Semplici is the leading candidate to replace Gotti.
The Squilotti host Juventus at the Stadio Picco in the next Serie A match, on Sunday, February 19.
