Inter have announced that Coach Luciano Spalletti has left the club, paving the way for Antonio Conte.

The announcement comes as no surprise, despite Spalletti mourning the loss of his brother only two days ago, given Conte has agreed a three-year contract with Inter.

“FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that Luciano Spalletti is no longer Head Coach of the First Team,” the club tweeted.

“The Club wishes to thank Spalletti for his work and the results achieved together.”

The 60-year-old moved to San Siro from Roma in the summer of 2017 and led the Nerazzurri to successive Champions League qualifications – their first in seven years.

However, he has seemingly paid the price for failing to mount a Scudetto challenge or win any silverware in his two seasons with the Beneamata.

Spalletti is set to be replaced by Conte, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting his appointment will be formalised on Friday.
