Salvatore Sirigu has officially terminated his contract with Torino by mutual consent and will now sign for Genoa.

The goalkeeper had been in a tense situation with the Toro hierarchy for several months and at one stage had been dropped in favour of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

It was confirmed by President Urbano Cairo last week that Milinkovic-Savic will be their first choice goalkeeper for this season, so Sirigu’s exit was inevitable.

Toro announced via a statement that they have terminated Sirigu’s contract by mutual consent.

He is now expected to sign for Genoa as a free agent, pending a medical.

Sirigu was second-choice goalkeeper for Italy at UEFA EURO 2020, playing a handful of minutes in the final group game against Wales.

The 34-year-old had been at Torino since 2017, before that spending time at Palermo, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla and Osasuna.

Sirigu is from Sardinia and has 27 senior Italy caps under his belt.
