OGC Nice have officially announced the arrival of veteran goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu on a free transfer.

The 36-year-old Italian shot stopper spent the first half of last season with Napoli before leaving for Fiorentina in the January transfer window. He made two appearances in Florence before being sidelined with an Achilles tendon rupture.

Sirigu previously spent five years in France with Paris Saint-Germain from 2011 to 2016, making 189 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 giants.

As announced today, Sirigu has now joined Nice on a free transfer, penning a one-year deal with Francesco Farioli’s side.

The 36-year-old will play a backup role to Marcin Bulka, who became the undisputed starter last season, prompting the French club to shift Kasper Schmeichel.

Nice currently sit fourth in the Ligue 1 table after five games, two points behind league leaders Monaco. Farioli has transformed the club since his arrival and is quickly attracting plaudits in France.
