It is now official, all of today’s Serie A and B games have been called off following the sudden death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori.

The 31-year-old Italy international defender passed away in his sleep overnight and was discovered by teammates this morning when he failed to arrive for breakfast.

The squad was in a hotel in Udine awaiting today’s planned match against Udinese at the Dacia Arena.

Following a formal request from numerous clubs and Italian Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi, all of today’s Serie A and B games have been called off as a sign of mourning.

Many of the players had worked with Astori, as he was an Italy international with 14 senior caps.
