Sassuolo have officially signed defender Mattia Viti from OGC Nice with an option to buy, reuniting him with coach Alessio Dionisi.
The centre-back had been sold to Nice by Empoli in the summer of 2022 at a cost of €13m plus bonuses and a 10 per cent cut of any future sell-on fee.
The 21-year-old struggled with injury problems in France and made only 12 appearances between Ligue 1 and the Conference League, but still managed to score a goal.
Viti underwent a medical over the last couple of days and put pen to paper this evening.
As expected, the statement confirmed this is a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Sportitalia report the option is worth circa €10m.
The transfer allows Viti to reunite with coach Dionisi, who had already worked with him at Empoli.
He had also been linked with Fiorentina before Sassuolo secured the deal.
