It is now official that Roma have sent Matias Vina to Sassuolo on loan with an option to buy after his Bournemouth spell.

The Uruguay international had spent six months on loan in England with AFC Bournemouth, who did not activate their option to make the move permanent for €15m.

He impressed there, scoring two goals in 12 appearances for the Premier League side.

Instead, Vina is staying within Serie A for Sassuolo and it is another loan with option to buy, this time set at closer to €10m.

Vina is a replacement for Georgios Kyriakopoulos, who at the weekend joined Monza also on loan with option to buy.

Roma paid €13m to sign Vina from Palmeiras in the summer of 2021, but he struggled to settle under Jose Mourinho, especially after the move to a three-man defence made him into a wing-back.

It is hoped this loan period will help him rediscover his form and bump his transfer value back up, playing in his natural left-back role for Sassuolo.
