Sassuolo have officially announced the signing of Scottish left-back Josh Doig on a permanent transfer from Serie A colleagues Hellas Verona

The former Hibernian youngster has moved for a reported fee of €6m plus bonuses according to updates from Calciomercato.com

Doig had been attracting plenty of interest from clubs within Serie A and abroad in January, as Ivan Juric’s Torino has reportedly made an enquiry, before Gennaro Gattuso and his Marseille entered negotiations.

Marseille had reached an agreement in principle with Verona, but Sassuolo were able to fend off their interest.

Doig’s transfer is Verona’s fifth notable sale of the 2023-24 season after Filippo Terraciano’s move to Milan, Isak Hien to Atalanta, Marco Faraoni to Fiorentina and Cyril Ngonge, whose move to Napoli was made official on Friday.

Doig is not expected to be named in the starting line-up for Verona’s upcoming visit to the Stadio Olimpico, where they will face Roma in Serie A on Saturday afternoon.
