Sampdoria have officially announced the transfer of defender Omar Colley to Besiktas in a definitive deal.

The Gambian centre back joined the Blucerchiati in July 2018 from Genk in a deal worth around €9.25m and went on to become an important defender for the club, scoring three goals and providing one assist across 136 appearances in all competitions.

As announced by Sampdoria, Colley has now joined Besiktas on a permanent deal, reported to be worth around €2.5m.

The 30-year-old Gambian is the latest Serie A player to leave for the Turkish Super Lig, heading to Besiktas just a day after Nicolo Zaniolo’s move to Galatasaray was confirmed.

Sampdoria picked up two new centre backs in the January transfer window, signing Hellas Verona’s Koray Gunter on a six-month loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy clause attached and Udinese’s Bram Nuytinck on a short-term contract. The Ligurian outfit look set for relegation, sitting 19th in the Serie A table.
