Salernitana have confirmed the signing of Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa on a free transfer.

The 37-year-old moves to Serie A for the first time in his career.

The Mexico captain has signed a contract until the end of the season, with an option to extend for one more season, so until June 2024.

Ochoa will wear shirt No.13 at the Stadio Arechi.

He was signed because starting goalkeeper Luigi Sepe has suffered an injury that will force him out of action throughout January.

This is Ochoa’s third stint in Europe as he has already played in Spain and France. His contract with America Mexico expires on December 31, so he was available as a free agent.

Ochoa was Mexico’s captain at the World Cup in Qatar.

He has played 135 games with his national team, making his debut on December 2005. He is expected to make his Serie A debut on January 4, 2023 in Salernitana’s first game of the year against Milan.
