Salernitana have confirmed Filippo Inzaghi’s sacking, while Fabio Liverani is expected to sign with the Granata later today.

Serie A strugglers Salernitana announced Inzaghi’s sacking with an official statement on Sunday morning.

“Salernitana announce to have relieved first team coach Filippo Inzaghi of his duties,” the club said in a statement.

“The club thank the coach for his commitment and wish him the best for the future of his career.”

Inzaghi was appointed in October 2023 to replace Paulo Sousa, but the 2006 Italy World Cup winner only won two games out of 16 in charge of the Granata, drawing four and losing ten times.

Multiple sources claim ex-midfielder and Parma coach Liverani will replace Inzaghi at the Stadio Arechi and according to Sky Sport Italia, the 47-year-old will sign his contract in the evening.

Salernitana sit rock bottom of the Serie A table with just 13 points in 24 matches. They have the most beaten defence in the league with 47 goals conceded.

On Friday, they suffered a 3-1 loss against direct rivals Empoli at the Stadio Arechi, which inevitably led to Inzaghi’s sacking.
