Salernitana have announced the return of Walter Sabatini as their director general, after his previous experience at the club from January to June 2022.

The news was confirmed with a statement released by the Stadio Arechi side and President Danilo Iervolino.

Sabatini had already joined Iervolino when he first purchased the club during the Christmas break in the 2021-22 season and had to practically rebuild the squad.

He decided to leave in the summer of 2022 after a difference of opinion with Iervolino over strategy and how to build on securing Serie A safety.

This is seen as a form of demotion for current director of sport Morgan De Sanctis, who had been in charge of transfers since Sabatini’s departure.

President Iervolino blasted several players in the media last week, claiming they did not want to fight for the club and would be sold in January.

Sabatini is 68 years old and a veteran figure of Calcio, who worked for the likes of Lazio, Palermo, Roma, Sampdoria, Inter, Bologna and most recently as an advisor to Athletic Club MG in Brazil.
