Salernitana have officially appointed Stefano Colantuono as their new coach after firing Fabrizio Castori this afternoon.

The decision was made after starting the Serie A season with one win, one draw and six defeats.

Saturday’s 2-1 loss away to Spezia, a game they had taken the lead through Nwankwo Simy, was the final straw.

Official: Salernitana sack Castori

Castori was relieved of his duties today and, as expected, Colantuono was brought in as his replacement.

A statement from the club confirms Colantuono has signed a contract to June 30, 2022.

There is also an option to extend by another year if he manages to keep Salernitana in Serie A.

The tactician turns 59 later this month and this represents a return to Salernitana, where he already worked from December 2017 to December 2018.

His most recent job was as a technical director of Serie C outfit Sambenedettese from September 2020 to January 2021.

Among his previous coaching roles, Colantuono also worked at Catania, Perugia, Atalanta, Palermo, Torino, Udinese and Bari.
