SPAL have officially announced former Parma, Fiorentina and Genoa striker Giuseppe Rossi’s return to Italy on a deal until June 2022.

The 34-year-old has been without a club since leaving Salt Lake in January, having spent the last three years in MLS.

The player born in Teaneck, New Jersey, is a former Italy international, capped 30 times by the Azzurri.

Physical problems have plagued the player, halting his career in European football, as he suffered four cruciate ligament injuries between 2011 and 2017.

Rossi moved to Manchester United in July 2004, when he moved to the English giants from Parma’s youth team.

The striker’s best time came at Villarreal in La Liga, where he scored 82 goals in 191 games with the Yellow Submarine.

He has other stints at Newcastle, Levante and Celta Vigo abroad, before a failed attempt to kickstart his career in Serie A with Genoa.

But Rossi joined Salt Lake in February 2020 and played seven games with the MLS team, scoring once in the process.

But the veteran is now back in Italian football, signing a deal with SPAL in Serie B until June 2022.

“SPAL announce that they have signed a contract until June 30, 2022, with striker Giuseppe Rossi,” the club wrote in a statement.

“The new Biancazzurri player will wear jersey No. 49.”
