Roma have officially confirmed the signing of Sampdoria striker Patrik Schick, in a deal worth up to €42m.

The Czech international took his medicals this morning, and has now officially signed on loan with an obligation to buy.

“AS Roma are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Patrik Schick from Sampdoria,” a statement on the Giallorossi’s website confirmed.

“The agreement includes an immediate loan fee of €5 million and, upon the completion of certain sporting objectives, an obligation to make the transfer permanent for a further €9m.

“The terms of the permanent transfer also include various performance-related bonuses, worth up to a maximum of €8m, based on the achievement of certain sporting objectives on the part of both the club and the player.

“Additionally, Sampdoria are entitled to a final payment of €20m in February 2020. Should Schick be sold prior to 1 February 2020, the clubs have agreed that Sampdoria will be entitled to 50 per cent of the eventual transfer fee or €20m – whichever sum is the greater.”

The striker had been due to join Juventus earlier this summer, but the €30.5m deal collapsed after his medical flagged-up a heart problem, which later cleared up.

If all conditions are met, Schick will become the Lupi’s record signing at a total €42m, beating the €36m paid for Gabriel Batistuta in 2001.

However, with inflation taken into account Batigol would still be the most expensive transfer, as his fee is equivalent to €47.9m today, according to Calcio e Finanza.
