Roma have officially signed Portugal international goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Wolverhampton Wanderers for €11.5m plus bonuses. ‘Roma is a big club and a new challenge.’

The shot-stopper flew in today for his medical and after completing the tests, he put pen to paper on a contract until June 2024.

A statement from the Giallorossi confirmed the details of the transfer, worth €11.5m plus variable performance-related bonuses.

These are tied both to individual performances and the club’s achievements during his time at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Roma is a big club and a new challenge and I’m excited to try and help the club achieve its targets,” Patricio told the official Roma website.

“In José Mourinho we are talking about one of the greatest coaches in the world and I am excited to start working with him and doing everything I can to help the team.”

Rui Patricio joined Wolves from Sporting CP in 2018 for €18m and had a contract until June 2023.

“Rui Patricio brings with him a huge amount of success with the Portuguese national team and a number of successful seasons in the Premier League in which he only underlined his quality,” added Roma general manager Tiago Pinto.

“As we welcome him to the club we are certain that our group of players will benefit from the arrival of a goalkeeper with such an array of international experience to call upon.”

As always, Roma use their new player announcements to also spread awareness of missing children and young adults.
