Roma have another free agent to bolster their defence after Mats Hummels signed a contract believed to be worth €3m per season.

They had already secured Mario Hermoso after the transfer deadline, to replace Chris Smalling following his switch to Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha FC.

Negotiations with the German had stalled, but resumed yesterday and he flew in for his medical, putting pen to paper this evening.

It is reportedly a one-year contract with option to extend for a second season, worth a salary of €3m including performance-related bonuses.

He has chosen the Number 15 jersey.

Hummels latest reinforcement for Roma

The German international will turn 36 in December and spent his entire career at only two clubs, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

His contract with the latter was allowed to run down on June 30 and he was in talks with numerous clubs, including Real Sociedad.

Hummels and Hermoso arrived in time to be added to Roma’s UEFA Europa League squad list, which had to be handed in today.

  1. Wow, Hummels is legend, don’t know how is strong now, but I believe AS made good business here.

AS made 2 strong defenders with initialls MH. Let see if our 9 and 10 with 99 will win against them.
